As we officially integrate into life under quarantine, now more than ever it feels right to bring back the guest mix series, and showcase one of our favourite artists from the Future Beats scene to profile in the process.
Since emerging as one of the breakout stars of the Soundcloud communities boundary-free beats scene, Ohio-based KMB has embodied and fused the best elements from R&B, Hip-Hop and House to carve out an unmistakable brand of Future Beats thats rightly seen the beatmaker recognised as one of the brightest talents in the scene.
His latest project, ‘WHATYOUTHINKIN Vol. 2’ which dropped last month, expands on the hallmarks of his heterogeneous sound, flipping classic samples and using R&B-indebted hooks to irresistible, dancefloor-ready effect. The edit pack weaves and bobs its way through a multitude of vibes, – ‘Calling All Girls’ takes the classic 2003 ATL jam and layers it with a swinging groove and drum flow Kaytra would be proud of, whilst ‘freecare’ adds a similarly melodic bounce and kicks to Mick Jenkins’ exceptional Black Milk original ‘Carefree’ for another instantly club-ready refix.
Having had his earliest taste in production as early as 4 years old, it wasn’t until the equally tender age of 10 – his Dad dropped a copy of FL Studio on his lap, that he had his first real opportunity to cook up a beat and begin to carve out the sultry and smoother tracks he initially gained notoriety for. In that time whilst his sound has grown, one consistent element that’s followed is the Colombus-residents love for Brandy, having paid his respects with countless edits including ‘down?’, ‘tribulation’ and ‘never say never’ barely scratching the surface of how deep his respect for the R&B Queen goes.
In his About To Blow Mix, KMB doubles down on that lush soundscape, turning up the heat for a soulful and feelgood 30 minute blend of R&B jams, old and new.“Get ready to groove.” KMB told us when we asked what to expect: “This mix features a gang of my favourite tracks to keep you two-stepping!”
